Run down of our 4th of July holiday!

We had a great 4th of July weekend. It all started on Thursday July 1st when the Car show rolled into town. This is something Koby just loves every year around the 4th of July. He actually got to get off work early and go over on the Bear Lake run with my relative Russ. He spent the afternoon with the "old car people." You will notice I didn't say old people just the people that own the old cars. They had a nice dutch oven dinner and visited down by the lake. Then it was time to head back through the canyon back over to Logan. I guess Russ jumped in the passengers side and told Koby to go ahead and drive the truck back. He was pretty ecstatic. Later that night we attended the America Concert at the fair grounds. Thanks again to Russ for giving us the free tickets he won at a previous car show. It was a fun night. Many of the songs were from my dads growing up days, but I still recall many of the familiar songs and tunes. Koby and I had a fun night watching the people more than anything that were sitting around us. These kind of events bring out the best of us you know.

On Friday it was the big celebration in Logan with the stadium fireworks. That night we met up with some friends (Kristin and Brandon and Trent and Lori and their kids) and went to Chilis for dinner and then went up to watch the fireworks. We sat on the lawn near Oakridge apartments and tried to keep the kids as calm as we could before they began. Lizzie really enjoyed them this year and oohed and aahed. It is so fun to get together with friends you don't see everyday and make such fun memories for our kids.

On Saturday this is the big day for the car show and we usually always spend most of the day in Logan at the fair grounds, but today Koby just went over for most of the morning and I got some things done around the house and let Lizzie get a good nap. Then we went over and walked around the car show and met up with Russ and JJ. We let Lizzie run around and gave JJ the chance to chase her. Then of course we waited to see if we won the give away car and we didn't again this year. One of these years Koby is determined to win it. After fighting through the traffic we finally got to a place to watch the car show parade. This is where all the cars drive up and down main street so you get a good look at them and can hear the engines roar. After the parade we got a bite to eat and then Koby took Lizzie to the hotel where Russ and JJ were staying and let Lizzie swim in the pool while I ran a few errands. It was definitely a long day by the time we got home. We were all exhausted.

Sunday which was actually the 4th we didn't do a whole lot to celebrate. We did take our star shaped sugar cookies to nursery and the kids really enjoyed those. Then after church we met up with some friends from the ward and had a cookout at the Campbell home. It was fun and very relaxing knowing that our weekend had been busy and that tomorrow would be crazy and busy, too.

Monday the 5th is when Lewiston did their big celebration. We started the morning out with Koby running the 5K again this year. Lizzie and I didn't actually make it down to cheer him on that early, but he did a great job and we are proud of him. Then we spent the day watching the parade and the kids catch candy. Lizzie was so funny this year. She would clap and yell candy and go pick it up and put it in her plastic sack. We had some other friends with us watching the parade. It was so fun to watch how excited they all would get when the candy was thrown. After the parade we went to the city park and let Lizzie run through the water and get sprayed down by the firehose from the firetruck. This is a favorite if you come to Lewiston for the celebration. We also just walked around and visited with friends and listened to the patriotic music going on. For lunch we went down to have a cookout with our friends the Winwards. They have a huge blowup swimpool and slide that the kids could play on. So we ate and visited and watched the kids play for a couple of hours that afternoon. When we left Winwards I took Lizzie home and gave her a nap. She was pretty worn out and slept for 2.5 hours and didn't wake up until 6:00 pm, but that way she would be ready for the fireworks. Yes, another firework show. We ended our holiday weekend with a "big bang" by going down that night to the city park and watching the Lewiston fireworks. I told you this post would be a rundown and believe me we were all rundown by the time it was over, but it was well worth it and we sure had a good time.
